camping out

I can't remember when this started but Friday nights became "camp out" night. The boys ask all week long when we are going to camp out and what kind of snacks we are going to have. So on Friday nights we set up chairs, tie sheets to them and bring all their pillows and blankets out. They have to decide on a movie together to watch while we make a snack for them. Oreo's are a big hit but this Friday night we made a cake. While eating his piece, Oliver looked up at me and said, "mom, it doesn't look good-but the taste-good job! (thumb up) Let me explain what the cake looked like. It was a double layered round strawberry and chocolate cake. For some reason the cake just fell apart while I put the icing on. I used the same brand I have used before, following the same technique I have previously used. But this time it looked like Sebastian made the cake. We all had a good laugh at the ugly cake, but all enjoyed eating it.

Things you'll probably never say

  1. "No more arugula. You'll get a bellyache."
  2. "After my second pregnancy, I just couldn't keep the weight on!"
  3. "Honey, let's play barbies again, and I'll be the bad sister. Again."
  4. "You know, I'm actually sharper when I'm awakened every two hours."
  5. "Why don't you try on something pink? You don't have enough pink clothing."
  6. "My new favorite song is 'Fruit Salad'. Totally downloading it."
  7. "I regret getting that epidural."
  8. "Thank you so much for the advice about everything I'm doing wrong with my kid. I found it really helpful."

Those in need

We watched the weather channel for our area and couldn't help but laugh-we had every weather advisory available minus tornado and hurricane. Crazy weather the last couple of days. Now that the snow is melting and various other reasons, areas in and around Bismarck are being flooded. This is very scary for many people but fortunately for us, we are safe. But for those who are affected by this, prayers go out to them. But what is awesome to see now, and usually after a disaster occurs, is people coming together to help each other. Friends, relatives, churches, businesses, and strangers dropping everything to come to the aid of those in need. And it should be this way! But why is it only after a crisis that we are aware of those in need? Hopefully, everyday we can be aware of the needs, physical and spiritual, of people in our local area and worldwide.

Making Cookies

When Sebastian went down for his morning nap, Oliver, Thatcher and I made chocolate chip cookies. I found a recipe that uses applesauce instead of butter, so thought I would try it out. They had good flavor but the texture is more like cake and not cookie. But I would definitely make them again and the boys love them (anything with chocolate they will eat) and we don't have to feel bad about the fat content. Sugar, yes! The boys had fun mixing the ingredients and we tried to incorporate math into the process, 1 +1=?, they'll get it eventually.
We put on uncle Ryan's music and danced around the kitchen while the cookies were baking. They love "the fast one", Down Home Country. Thatcher cracks me up, he's style is quite unique. Oliver's I would describe as, the "energizer bunny", he just jumps up and down all around the room. Fun stuff! It's times like these that make you forget all of the negetive. Lord, help me to make more memories like these everyday.

Welcome to our house

After a year without a computer, I have started a new blog. I hope you enjoy reading about our daily lives and find encouragement, laughter and most of all Jesus. He is the most important thing in our lives, nothing else matters, we hope you feel the same way too.
The boys are all sleeping at the same time-love it when this happens. They are wiped out from the weekend festivities and getting to bed later than they should .(BAD MOM and DAD) This morning I e-mailed all of the committee members about a bill they will be voting on this week. I pray that it helps and they don't pass it. I know God is control and we are in HIS hands ultimately so I don't worry. But I am trying to be more pro-active especially on social issues, this hasn't always been the case though. I never cared about political issues or social issues before but this past presidential election I realized I need to stay informed and more than that I need to take action. As Christians we need to stop sitting by and complaining about how immoral our country is and start taking action, getting informed about issues and who and when they are being voted on and then make a point to PRAY, write, call our representatives, congressmen, whoever needs to be contacted to make our voice heard.
Unfortunately, in the time it took to "make my voice heard" the house fell apart. I can't imagine the people who work from home-how do they get anything done.
